Having food allergies is frustrating enough. Consider how time consuming and the almost impossible chore of reading tiny labels at the supermarket is. Then one has to identify the allergens in the groceries – the whole process can be daunting. Hughs Allergy Scan is a FREE App (for a limited time) that hopefully will make the process much easier by allowing you to detect the allergens along with other items you and your family are sensitive to while you shop.

How do I get started?

* Download our FREE App and set up your account manually or set it up quickly using Facebook or Twitter.
* Next, set up your own personal allergen profile (you can also set up profiles for other members of your family).
* After you identify the allergens you are sensitive to - youre ready to begin and start scanning!
* Using your iPhone (or any iOS 7+ mobile device), scan the barcode of a product. Hughs Allergy Scan will then attempt to identify the product and the allergens it may contain.
* If the product contains any of your profile allergens, you will see a "red" banner accompanied with an audible tone to indicate allergens are present. You may hit the “Product Allergens” tab to see exactly what has been identified. If no allergens are detected you will see a "green" banner accompanied with an audible tone.
* You can also hit the “Alternative Products” tab to see what other similar products may be available, if any.

The products you scan will be analyzed on two levels to provide greater information and protection. For example: if a product is scanned and is analyzed as “Gluten Free” it still might contain what are considered to be “acceptable levels”. Hughs Allergy Scan will categorize the detected allergen as “yellow” if there is a possible match (the product could contain very low levels of the allergen) or “red” if there is definite match. This enables you to make a more informed decision as to whether or not to try the product.

What if my product isn’t in the database?

If Hughs Allergy Scan is unable to locate one of your favorite products – please send us a photo of the product (per guidelines), the product name, and its ingredients using our built-in "missing product" email function and suggest that the product be added. The database of products is constantly growing.
